Lobby signs are fundamental to any business operating inside an office building. The lobby is the first port of call for new clients. First impressions are gleaned from the receptionist and the general aesthetic, but also how and where the company’s brand is displayed. If you want to build client trust fast, then think about a lobby sign that displays your company’s name, any accreditations, and its core values.

The company name or logo should be displayed somewhere very visible, usually but not always a wall. The precise style or font of lettering must be consistent with letterheads, business cards, and other branded media, because it looks unprofessional to switch from one font style to another. Keep your brand consistent. It reassures the client that you know what you’re doing, as well as making your brand easier to remember.

If you’re a law or accountancy firm, for example, you’ll want to display the accreditations of all the practitioners. This reassures clients that your firm’s up to the job. Accreditations should be engraved after each practitioner’s name.

Often, a firm will be a member of a professional body, which may or may not be mandatory for practice. If your business has earned a certificate for investing in employees or adherence to green principles, display these too.

This leads us to core values, which is often encapsulated in a slogan underneath the company brand name. Perhaps your company specializes in environmental issues or fostering social equality. Your slogan should reflect these core values and seamlessly integrate into your lobby sign.

Of course, including all the above isn’t much use if you only intend to mount a lobby sign that is smaller than a page size. Make sure that your sign is big enough to be noticed and interesting enough to read.

While waiting to be seen, clients will adjust to their surroundings. The first thing to draw their attention will be your lobby sign. Make sure it piques their interest.

Choosing the right base materials for your lobby sign is a good way to start. For a sophisticated look, you might choose brushed aluminum. You can set your sign out from its surroundings by back-lighting it and mounting it with spacers. Vinyl with frosted or painted lettering is another popular look for lobby signs.

If you have the wall space, use it. Don’t make your lobby sign too overpowering, but it shouldn’t shrink into the wall either. Plasma TV screen size or smaller is plenty large enough for most lobbies.
